Check out the brand new video for The Government, a cut from Rattex’s new album Bread and Butter featuring Ben Sharpa. The track deals with the government’s failure to deliver on its promises to the people who are still suffering in South Africa.
The beat was produced by Planet Earth who reps Gugulethu, Cape Town. Bread and Butter drops October 15th…
Check out the brand new video for Bread and Butter, the Nyambz-produced title track from Rattex’s forthcoming album Bread and Butter.
Bread and Butter will be in stores by mid-October. If your local music store doesn’t stock it, demand that they get copies in - don’t take no for an answer!
We are proud to present our latest video, runonsentence by the mighty KONFAB.
We shot this video while we were on tour in London last year. One night we went round to see my good friends the Chandon brothers, Theo and Alex. At about 2 am (after a few beers and many blunts) we decided it would be a good idea to shoot a music video.
Anyway,,, we just saw the video for the first time tonight and we love it. It perfectly captures the surreal and relentlessly hypnotic essence of the track. KONFAB’s debut album will be out in the second or third quarter of 2008. Keep it locked for more information.
*(Not many people know this, but I was actually a Ninja in Pervirella (check the credits!)).
Check out the video for Liberate Yourself by Terror MC. The video was shot in the Cape Flats hoods of Kraaifontein and Bishop Lavis by Mustafa Maluka. Thomas Gesthuizen edited the video.
Liberate Yourself is one of the hottest tracks off the Planetary Assault compilation. Terror MC rips heavy bars about his life on the streets of the Cape Flats.
Aweh! Check out the pre-video video for Liberate Yourself by Terror MC. This montage of still photography taken around the Cape Flats was put together by visual artist Mustafa Maluka, himself born and raised in Bishop Lavis on the Cape Flats.
Maluka’s video is a prequel to the forthcoming full-motion video for Liberate Yourself that should be released in early December.
Also, check out this interesting blog post by Leo Africanus on the cultural/ musical significance of the new breed of Cape Town MCs.
We’ve started working on the new video for Hamb’ubuza by South Africa’s hottest up and coming crew, Driemanskap. They are riding high at the moment with a well-deserved number 1 spot in Hype magazine’s Unsigned Hype chart.
As always, the video will be directed by Anne-Sophie Leens from Apartment Studios. We’re going bigger and better this time so we’re employing a director of photography to make sure that the final product is truly world-class. We’re also talking to potential sponsors to see what we can do.
What’s up people! Hope you all had a nice weekend!
We were busy as always. KONFAB came to the studio and started recording his new album joint, ‘Solar Eclipse’. It’s been a while since we recorded so it’s nice to get back to being creative after spending so much time on ‘business’, marketing and admin. ‘Solar Eclipse’ features a beat by none other than DJ Raiko. It’s definitely gonna be another KONFAB classic.
My man Ben Sharpa also came over and we shot a quick Youtube video for ‘Into the Black (Remix)’. Nothing fancy, we just got out on the roof of my apartment block with my Canon Ixus 65 and shot one take. Straight into iMovie, synced up the sound and BAM! 15 mins work. High production values and well-crafted videos are great, but not enough people just make quick low-budget videos for Youtube. Sometimes fans just want to see the artist and hear the song - think of it as an mp3 with some added visuals.
We’ve just completed the video for the first single from Planetary Assault, ‘How We Roll’. The video was produced and directed by the hottest video maker in the country, Anne-Sophie Leens from Apartment Studios.
Here’s an exclusive preview. Look out for the video for ‘How We Roll’ on a tv near you soon.
Day 2 was fantastic. Another very early start. We started in Paarl to film Jaak at his house for the braai scene that leads up to him and KONFAB eating boereworst rolls (‘rolls’ get it?). We also filmed Jaak ‘rolling’ his tyre down the road chased by all the neighourhood kids. Jaak had to lose his usual streetwear in favour of the more tradition tight jeans, checked shirt and tekkies. He was a good sport though and didn’t complain.
We then went to the ‘fletse’ in Paarl where Jaak grew up and we were quickly mobbed by hundreds of kids who wanted to get into the scene. It was all good and really added to the energy.
The last location of the day was back in Cape Town to shoot at Marvel on Long Street. Otis Larynx, Writers Block, Ben Sharpa, Breeze, Terror MC, Linda (Dice Life) and Nastie Ed all came through to add to the toilet scene. Marvels toilets are infamous for all kind of illicit activities as well as packed ciphers - it was only right to recreate such a scene for the shoot.
After 2 exhausting days we finally wrapped at 6pm. The whole shoot was a huge success. Now the post-production work begins. Look out for the video exclusively on Channel O in early July.
Just came off the set of the first day of shooting the video for ‘How We Roll’. It was a long day but the energy was intense. Our first location was Bux-4-Tyres in Epping. The owner Shiraz was kind enough to let us film on his premises despite being his busiest day of the week. After we finished there we moved on to Mercury Live to film the club scene.
Everyone came through,,, we had krump dancers, hot girls and a big crowd of extras. We even got an unexpected visit from Mizi, Simone and Black Lez from Hype magazine who also blessed us with cameos.
Tomorrow we’re up early again to shoot Jaak’s verse in Paarl (his hood). Later in the day we’re shooting the final scene in Marvel on Long Street.
Pre-production has started on the video for ‘How We Roll’, the first single from Planetary Assault. Naturally the video will focus on performances by KONFAB and Jaak, but there will also be cameos by other artists on the project.
