Pioneer Unit

We are proud to announce that we will be working with cult South African independent label, African Dope to release Planetary Assault.

The deal was signed today at African Dope’s headquarters in Cape Town. Although Planetary Assault will be coming out on Pioneer Unit, we will be working closely with African Dope to leverage their knowledge of the local independent music industry, especially in terms of marketing and distribution.

Planetary Assault will be in stores and available for digital download in mid-June.

Damn! We’ve been so busy behind the scenes preparing for the release of the Planetary Assault Mixtape that I have forgotten to post. All the loose ends are being tied up and the business side has been sorted. Next week I’m going to announce a couple of exciting developments, so stay tuned.

Last week my man Rattex came through and laid down a killer 16 on ‘Bad Man Party’. It perfectly compliments the verse laid down by Oracle Flo the previous weekend. Needless to say, Ra brought his own unique kasi vibe to the track and it’s slamming!

I know I said ‘Bad Man Party’ was going to be the last addition to the project, but there was 2‘30 of space left on the CD so I added an interlude. It’s a dub version of ‘My People’ featuring Ben Sharpa. ‘Sharpa Dub (Interlude)’ aims to highlight the similarities between Dub, Grime and Hip Hop. You could call it Dubstep, or you could just see it as straight Dub. Either way, I’m glad I found space for this little gem on the project.

This weekend we started recording ‘Bad Man Party’, the 20th and final track to go on the Planetary Assault Mixtape. It’s another dark club banger featuring Oracle Flo, Rattex, KONFAB and Ben Sharpa.

O-Flo laid his vocals down on Sunday. The rest of the boys will be coming through this week to lace their verses. MORE FIRE!

Cult British radio personality Mary Anne Hobbs has invited Ben Sharpa & KONFAB to perform live on her set at Sonar in Barcelona on June 15th.

Sonar (Advanced Music and Multimedia Art) is the largest electronic music festival in the world. It’s now in its 10th year and attracts huge crowds from around the world.

This is a massive opportunity for Pioneer Unit to showcase the talents of two of South Africa’s finest MCs to an international audience.
